Critias, Fragment 49

Critias, fragment 49 (tr. Kathleen Freeman):
Nothing is certain, except that having been born we die, and that in life one cannot avoid disaster.

βέβαιον μὲν οὐδέν, εἰ μὴ τό τε καταθανεῖν γενομένῳ καὶ ζῶντι μὴ οἷόν τε ἐκτὸς ἄτης βαίνειν.
